Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk chairs Church Dissertations Board meeting
On September 4, 2012, the Church Post-Graduate and Doctoral School held two meetings of the Church Dissertations Board. The meetings were chaired by Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk in his capacity of rector of the School and chairman of the Synodal Biblical-Theological Commission.
The first meeting heard the defence of a Doctor’s thesis by Prof. V. Katasonov, head of the School’s Chair of Philosophy, on ‘A concept of actual infinity as a meeting place for theology, philosophy and science’.
The second meeting considered the Doctor’s paper by Hegumen Arseny (Sokolov), rector of the Moscow Patriarchate Parish of All Saints in Lisbon. The theme of his thesis was ‘The Book of the Prophet Amos: An historical, philological, traditional Jewish and patristic exegesis’.
By secret vote the Board resolved to ask His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to approve the granting of Doctor’s degree to both seekers.
