On August 24, 2012, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, visited the Cathedral of the Trinity in San Francisco. He was welcomed by Archbishop Benjamin of San Francisco and the West, and clergy and laity of the Orthodox Church in America’s diocese of San Francisco.

Archbishop Benjamin introduced the metropolitan to the history of the cathedral associated with the name of St. Tikhon, Patriarch of All Russia, who served in it when he was Archbishop of the Aleutians and North America. Metropolitan Hilarion venerated the cathedral’s shrines including St. Tikhon’s vestments and the pectoral icons which used to belong to St. Philip, Metropolitan of Moscow.

After that the two hierarchs had a fraternal talk at the drawing room at the cathedral.
