His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia extended condolences to President R. Minnikhanov of Tatarstan over the terrorist actions committed in Kazan in which Mufti Ildus Faizov, chairman of the Muslim Board for Tatarstan, was injured and his deputy Imam Khatib Valiulla Yakupov was killed.

To: R. N. Minnikhanov

President of the Republic of Tatarstan

Dear Rustam Nurgalievich,

I was deeply grieved to learn about the terrorist actions in which Mufti Ildus Faizov, chairman of the Muslim Board for Tatarstan, was injured and his deputy, Imam Khatib Valiulla Yakupov was killed.

I sincerely sympathize with the injured and the relative and friends of the dead. I support the work carried out by the honorable mufti and the Muslim community in Tatarstan to preserve good-neighbourly relations with people of different ethnic backgrounds and to develop interreligious dialogue as it contributes to the consolidation of civic peace and inter-ethnic accord.

I am confident that contrary to the designs of the terrorists, what has happened will rally the faithful of all the traditional religions in our country in their joint efforts for the good of the Fatherland.

I hope that the law enforcement of the republic will do all that is possible to prevent those who perpetrated this evil act from avoiding justice.

May the Most High give peace and prosperity to the people of Tatarstan.

Respectfully,

+ Kirill

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia
