On May 8, 2012, the Russian Orthodox Church’s representative in Germany, Archbishop Longing of Klin, attended the traditional ceremony of the laying of wreaths at the Troisdorf Cemetery in Bonn in memory of the Soviet citizens who fell during the war. The ceremony was organized by the Russian Federation consulate in Bonn.

Present at the ceremony were leaders and staff members of diplomatic missions from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kirgizia, as well as President of the State Parliament of Rhineland-Pfalz Joachim Mertes.

According to the Russian Orthodox Church Permanent Representation in Germany, on the same day a grand reception took place at the Russian General Consulate in Bonn in honour of war veterans. It was devoted to the Day of Victory over fascism.
