On February 20, 2012, a working meeting took place between Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations, and Archbishop Yevgeny of Vereya, chairman of the Education Committee of the Russian Orthodox Church, to discuss preparations for an enlarged conference of rectors of the ROC educational institutions licensed for training theologians.

The participants also discussed cooperation between the Education Committee and the Synodal Biblical and Theological Commission and division of responsibilities in the sphere of church scholarship.

Participating in the discussion on the first item were Archpriest Vladimir Vorobyev, rector of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Humanitarian University, Rev. Constantine Polskov, the University’s pro-rector for science, Mr M. Talankin, head of the University’s office for the methodological support of religious education, and Archpriest Vladimir Shmaliy, pro-rector of the Sts Cyril and Methodius Post-Graduate and Doctoral School.


Participating in the discussion of the second item were Archimandrite Kirill (Govorun), vice-chairman of the Education Committee, Fr. Savva (Tutunov), deputy chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archpriest Pavel Velikanov, pro-rector for theological work of the Moscow Theological Academy, and Archpriest Vladimir Shmaliy.
