On 23 December 2011, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations, rector of the Ss Cyril and Methodius Postgraduate and Doctoral School and chairman of the Synodal Biblical and Theological Commission, met with the participants in the professional development course for bishops.

In his address Metropolitan Hilarion spoke of the relationship between Church and Culture. He answered questions put by the audience about the Department for External Church Relations and the Postgraduate and Doctoral School.

The participants in the course thanked the rector of the Postgraduate and Doctoral School for organizing this course, which gave them an opportunity to learn about the main aspects of Church-State relations, and expressed their wish for such courses to be held again in future.

Metropolitan Hilarion handed out certificates to the bishops and to the archimandrites who were elected bishops

Receiving the certificates were:

  6. Bishop Dionisiy (Porubay) of Kasimov and Sasovo
  7. Bishop Kliment (Rodaikin) of Krasnoslobodsk and Temnikov
  8. Bishop Nikolai (Dutka) of Nakhodka and Preobrazheniye
  9. Bishop Innokentiy (Yakovlev) of Nizhniy Tagil and Serov
  10. Bishop Vladimir (Samokhin) of Skopin
  11. Bishop Pavel (Fokin) of Khanty-Mansiysk and Surgut
  12. Bishop Ignatiy (Deputatov) of Shakhtino and Millerovo
  13. Bishop Tikhon (Dorovskikh) of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and the Kuriles
  14.  Archimandrite Serafim (Gordeyev), elected bishop of Alatyrsk, vicar of the Cheboksary Diocese
  15.  Archimandrite Aristarkh (Yatsurin), elected bishop of Amursk and  Chegdomyn
  16.  Archimandrite Nikolai (Pogrebnyak), elected bishop of Balashikha, vicar of   the Moscow Diocese.
  17.  Archimandrite Efrem (Prosianok), elected bishop of Nikolayevsk, vicar of the Khabarovsk diocese.

 

In conclusion of the meeting, Metropolitan Hilarion presented all participants in the course with a book issued for the 65th anniversary of the Department for External Church Relations.

The short-term course for the newly elected bishops took place at the Postgraduate and Doctoral School on December 12-23. The participants met with His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia; Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna; Metropolitan Varsonofiy of Saransk and Mordovia, chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate; Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, DECR chairman; Metropolitan Ignatiy of Khabarovsk and the Amur Region; Metropolitan Merkuriy of Rostov and Novocherkassk; Bishop Sergiy of Solnechnogorsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Administrative Secretariat; heads of the Federal Ministries and Departments; and with heads and leading staff members of the Synodal institutions.
