On October 4, 2011, the Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk presented Mr. Alexander Matsegora, Deputy Director of the First Asia (Far East) Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a high church award. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia honoured the Russian diplomat with the Order of St Sergius of Radonezh, 3rd class, for his services to Orthodoxy in Korea and for his substansial contribution to church activity of the Trinity parish in Pyongyang.

Metropolitan Hilarion and Mr. Matsegora discussed a number of problems of Orthodoxy in the Korean Peninsula and cooperation between the DECR and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Also participating in the meeting was a DECR staff member Dmitry Petrovsky.
