On September 29, 2011, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, met with Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, president of the Pontifical Council for Culture.

During their talk, Metropolitan Hilarion told the cardinal about joint events held in the Year of Russian Culture in Italy and Italian Culture in Russia.

They pointed to the area of theological education as one of the priorities for cooperation. At Cardinal Ravasi’s request, Metropolitan Hilarion explained to him the present state of the Sts Cyril and Methodius Post-Graduate and Doctoral School and its plans for further development.

Metropolitan Hilarion presented Cardinal Ravasi with an album on icons and frescoes by St. Andrew Rublev as a token of their meeting.

Participating in the meeting were Archpriest Dimitry Sizonenko, DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, Fr. Antony (Sevryuk) rector of ROC the Parish of St. Catherine in Rome, Archpriest Igor Vyzhanov of St. Catherine’s, and executives of the Pontifical Council for Culture.
