On September 28, 2011, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, had a working meeting in Rome with Cardinal Kurt Koch, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

Participating in the meeting were Bishop Brian Farrell, vice-president of the Council, Fr. Antony (Sevryuk), rector of St. Catherine’s in Rome, Archpriest Dimitry Sizonenko, DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, Archpriest Igor Vyzhanov, a cleric of St. Catherine’s, Fr. Ioann (Guaita) and Fr. Ioann (Kopeikin) of the DECR, and Fr. Milan Zust, a staff member of the Council.

They discussed prospects for cooperation between the Roman Catholic Church and the Russian Orthodox Church in protecting Christians and overcoming Christianophobia and results of the Orthodox-Catholic cooperation within the Joint Orthodox-Catholic Theological Commission as well as contacts in the area of education.

In conclusion of the meeting, Metropolitan Hilarion presented Cardinal Koch with a photo album presenting St. Andrew Rublev’s frescoes and icons.
