On September 14, 2011, Archpriest Sergiy Zvonarev, DECR secretary for the far-abroad countries, met at the department with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The meeting was prompted by the visit to Moscow by the ICRC International Tracing Service vice-director Djordje Drndarski. Participating in the meeting were also Jerome Sorgue, deputy head of the ICRC Moscow delegation, Ms. Veronica Vybornova, ICRC Moscow delegation, and V. Kipshidze, a DECR staff member.

Archpriest Sergiy welcomed the guest and his party. Mr. Drndarski in his response spoke about the work of the International Tracing Service to search for archives information about victims of the 20th century Nazi crimes.

They also discussed prospects for cooperation between the Russian Orthodox Church and the International Tracing Service, which would make it possible for Russian citizens to resort to the ITS’s assistance in searching for their missing relatives and loved ones who disappeared in Germany during World War II.
