Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, has sent the following Happy Birthday message to Baron Eduard von Falz-Fein, a prominent leader of the Russian diaspora and the oldest layman of the Diocese of Chersonese, on the occasion of his 99th birthday:

Your Grace, Dear Eduard Alexandrovich:

I would like to extend you my heartfelt wishes of Happy Birthday on the occasion of the auspicious date of your 99th birthday.

Throughout your life journey you have given the society an example of the Russian man who, despite all the difficulties, has never lost spiritual ties with the Motherland. As one of the most prominent of the Russian diaspora, you have exerted every effort for many decades to restore the historical memory of the people.

Many know you as the oldest layman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s diocese of Chersonese. We in the Russian Orthodox Church highly value your manifold and helpful work to build and restore churches in various parts of our homeland, to organize Russian museums abroad and to help return to Russia unique historical documents and Russian artefacts.

On this auspicious day, I wish that the All-Merciful Lord may grant you spiritual and physical strength, peace and prosperity.

Respectfully,

+ Hilarion

Metropolitan of Volokolamsk
