On July 18, 2011, the Day of the Finding of the Relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Assumption in the St. Sergius Monastery of the Holy Trinity.

His Holiness was assisted by a great assembly of high-ranking hierarchs, as well as bishops and priests and brethren of the monastery in holy orders. Present at the service were also Sergiev Posad Mayor V. Korotkov and Odintsovo Mayor A. Gladyshev, the Patriarchal Press Service reported.

After the liturgy the hierarchs who came to the Laura for the celebrations conducted a thanksgiving at the monastery’s square with ‘Many Years of Life’ sung to all the faithful of the Church.

Then His Holiness Kirill and the archpastors came to the Cathedral of the Trinity to venerate the relics of St. Sergius.

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church addressed the congregation from the balcony of the Patriarchal chambers. He reminded them of the importance of St. Sergius’s spiritual feat for the whole Russian land, noting that one finds oneself and a meaning of life not so much in having one’s material needs met as in satisfying the needs of one’s soul.

‘And the rebirth of the Fatherland and the strengthening of families and the growth of one’s spiritual and material welfare are possible only if one cherishes great and sacred ideals in one’s heart for the sake of which one is able to share the sorrows of life and to work for a better life for all’, His Holiness said.
