DECR chairman opens a consultation on Sources of Authority in the Church

A consultation on Sources of Authority in the Church has opened on June 27, 2011, in Moscow. It is held under the auspices of the World Council of Churches’ Faith and Order Commission. The task of the consultation is to elaborate a Guide to Bible Interpretation through the Early Church Fathers (till 451), a brief introduction to the patristic tradition. The guide is intended for Christian denominations unfamiliar with this tradition.

This project, supported by the World Council of Church, was initiated in 2004 by Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations, who is a co-moderator of the consultations.

In the morning of June 27, Metropolitan Hilarion received the group which included Canon John Gibaut, director of the Faith and Order Commission, Ms. Susan Derber, co-moderator of the consultations, Rev. Michael van Parys, Archimandrite Kirill (Govorun) and Ms. Tamara Grzelidze. He discussed with them prospects for the development of the project and wished the group success in their work.
