On 21 March 2011, Metropolitan Hilarion met with V. Fronin, editor-in-chief of ‘Rossiyskaya Gazeta’ (Russian Newspaper).

During the talk held in a warm and sincere atmosphere, the DECR chairman and the editor of major Russian newspapers exchanged their views on the mass media influence on the life of society. For instance, they expressed their concern over the fact that certain mass media forget about their educational role while seeking high rating. V. Fronin noted that high-quality journalism was still in demand in the world.

Also discussed were some aspects of cooperation between the Russian Orthodox Church and the mass media.

“Rossiyskaya Gazeta’ was founded by a decree of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR and its first issue appeared in November 1990. At present its daily edition is 170, 000 copies, while its weekly edition has a circulation of more than 3, 500, 000 copies.
