On 3 March 2011, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), met with V. Yelchenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Russian Federation. They were joined in the meeting by archpriest Nikolai Balashov, DECR deputy chairman; Rev. Igor Yakimchuk, DECR secretary for Inter-Orthodox relations; minister-counsellor of the Embassy of Ukraine V. Yatsyuk, and the first secretary S. Dmitrienko.

They discussed prospects of cooperation between the DECR and the Embassy of Ukraine in strengthening of fraternal relations between the peoples of Russia and Ukraine. DECR chairman wished V. Yelchenko success in his work of a diplomat in the Russian Federation.
