Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk expressed his condolences over the earthquake in Christchurch to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand Murray MacCully. The text is given below.
Dear Mr. MacCully:
My heart grieves at the news of the natural disaster in Your country – the earthquake in Christchurch, the second largest city in New Zealand. Please accept my sincere and deep condolences.
May the Merciful Lord console those who have lost their loved ones and their homes. May He give strength to those working in the ruins, and bestow His help in efforts in overcoming the consequences of the natural disaster and the recovery of normal life in the area which has suffered.
