Statement of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill on the terrorist act at the Domodedovo airport

My heart aches at the terrorist act at the Domodedovo airport, this outrageous crime that killed dozens of civilians.

Human life is a gift from God, and an infringement on it is a crime not only against the human person, but also against the Creator. People who committed this atrocity have put themselves outside the law, both human and divine.

The location of the explosion at the airport, which people use to go on business trips and holidays, indicates that the terrorist attack was targeted against peaceful population. This criminal aggression cannot be justified. All our people should now unite in the struggle against inhuman attacks that kill innocent people. All resources of the state and society should be used to ensure reliable protection of our citizens.

I am praying for the repose of the victims’ souls, for consolation of their near and dear ones, and for soonest recovery of the injured. May the Merciful Lord help us to endure this tragedy.
