On October 20, 2010, the chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, arrived in Salonika. At the airport he was met by Russian General Consul in Salonika, A. Popov.

Metropolitan Hilarion will go from Salonika to Holy Mount Athos for the 95th birthday of Archimandrite Jeremiah, abbot of St. Panteleimon’s Monastery. He will also visit the Great Laura, the Iveron Monastery and some other Athonian monasteries. He also plans to meet with the Protos of Mount Athos.

The Russian Orthodox Church’s pilgrims group also includes Archbishops Feognost of Sergiev Posad and Antony of Borispol, as well as DECR staff members, clergy and laity.

They will stay on Mount Athos will October 29.
