Metropolitan Hilarion meets with Archbishop of Barcelona

On 5 October 2010, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, met with the Archbishop of Barcelona Lluis Cardinal Martinez Sistach at his residence. They were joined in the meeting by the Rev. Giovanni Guaita, a staff member of the DECR secretariat for inter-Christian relations, and by Prof. Adriano Rocucci, secretary general of the community of St. Egidio.

Participants in the meeting noted the importance of the International Meeting of Prayer for Peace taking place in Barcelona and attended by prominent religious, political and public figures. Discussed at the meeting were results and prospects of the Orthodox-Catholic dialogue that is assuming a particular significance in the modern secularized world.

Metropolitan Hilarion broached an issue of a church for the parish of the Russian Orthodox Church in Barcelona.

The talk, held in the atmosphere of mutual understanding and openness, ended with the exchange of presents.
