On September 30, 2010, His Beatitude Christopher, Metropolitan of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, who is in Moscow on an unofficial visit, was awarded the diploma of Professor of Theology by St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Humanitarian University in acknowledgement of the fruitful academic work he carried out for many years.

After the ceremony, Metropolitan Christopher addressed himself to the students with a lecture on

‘The Russian Ecclesiological Theology’ and answered questions from students about the history, today’s church order and missionary work of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia.

In the evening, Metropolitan Christopher gave a reception at the Danilovsky Hotel on the occasion of his new degree. Present at the reception were Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations; Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Outside Russia; Bishop Alexander of Dmitrov, Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, head of the Synodal department for church-society relations; Archpriest Vladimir Vorobyev, rector of St. Tikhon’s University; Archpriest Nikolay Balashov, DECR vice-chairman; Archpriest Alexy Yuschenko, rector of the Moscow representation church of the Czech Land and Slovakia; as well as governmental officials, the Slovakian Ambassador to Russia Josef Migas, and public figures from Russia, Czechia and Slovakia.
