On 16 September 2010, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriachate’s Department for External Church Relations, on a visit to Estonia with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, visited the ruins of St. Brigitta’s convent in the district of Pirita, Tallinn.

Metropolitan Hilarion visited the Alexander Nevsky cemetery, where the parents of the late Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia are buried, and said a requiem litiya for the late archpriest Mikhail and Yelena Ridiger.

Last in the programme of the DECR chairman’s visit to Estonia was his meeting with Metropolitan Korniliy of Tallinn and Estonia at his residence. The Primate of the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate thanked Metropolitan Hilarion for the visit, for greetings from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill with the 20th anniversary of his episcopal consecration, and for the concert of Russian music. He decorated Metropolitan Hilarion with the Order of the holy martyr Isidore of Yuriev (2nd degree), an award of the Estonian Orthodox Church.

Metropolitan Hilarion and his suite proceeded to the airport and were seen off by Metropolitan Korniliy of Tallinn and All Estonia.
