On September 7, 2010, DECR Chairman Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk met with Dr. A. Chubarian, director of the Russian Academy of Science’s Institute of World History, at the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations.

Participating in the meeting were also Hegumen Philip Riabykh, DECR vice-chairman, Rev. Sergiy Zvonarev, secretary for the far-abroad countries, and M. Palacio of the secretariat for the far-abroad countries, representing the DECR. The Institute of World History was represented by Ms Tokareva, director of the Center for History of Religion and Church, and Ms Enteyeva and Mr. Beglov of the same Center. Hegumen Yevfimy Moiseyev represented the Moscow Theological Academy.

Dr. Chubarian informed Metropolitan Hilarion about the joint project of his institute and the Moscow Theological Academy for publishing a fundamental book A History of the Russian Orthodox Diaspora. The project is patronized by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. At present, the first volume is being prepared for publication. It is devoted to the work the Russian Orthodox Church had carried out outside Russia till 1917. The authors of the volume are prominent Russian historians and representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Metropolitan Hilarion and Dr. Chubarian also discussed plans for joint conferences and cooperation between the DECR and the RAS Institute of World History.
