September the 5th, 2010, the Apodosis of the Dormition, marks the 32nd anniversary of the death of Metropolitan Nikodim of Leningrad and Novgorod. On this day, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Trinity Cathedral of the St. Alexander Nevsky Laura in St. Petersburg by Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna, who was assisted by a host of bishops and priests.

Among the worshippers were all the students of St. Petersburg Theological Schools.

Addressing the congregation, Metropolitan Juvenaly said in particular that Metropolitan Nikodim was an example of how the most important commandments of Christ – the love of God and the neighbour, should be lived up. ‘In the light of the Gospel we read during the liturgy, I would like to remind you that His Eminence Nikodim truly loved God and his neighbours with all his heart”, he said, adding that the life of Metropolitan Nikodim has left an indelible mark in the history of the Church and, most importantly, in people’s hearts.

The liturgy was followed by a requiem service for Metropolitan Nikodim. Then the hierarchs together with the clergy and faithful proceeded to the Nikolskoye Cemetery to say a prayer for the repose of Metropolitan Nikodim’s soul at his grave.
