DECR chairman meets with Russian ambassador to Estonia

On September 3, 2010, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations, met with the newly-appointed Russia ambassador to Estonia, Mr. Yu. N. Merzlyakov.

They were joined in their talk by Rev. Sergiy Zvonarev, DECR secretary for the far-abroad countries, Rev. Dimitry Ageyev, assistant to the DECR chairman, and A. Khoshev, DECR secretariat for inter-Orthodox relations.

The talk focused on the church situation in Estonia. Metropolitan Hilarion explained to his guest the past and present status of Orthodoxy in Estonia.

The discussion also concerned a forthcoming visit of the DECR chairman to Estonia. The parties also outlined ways for cooperation between the external church relations department and the Russian Embassy in Tallinn. The DECR chairman thanked Mr. Merzlyakov for the fruitful talk and wished him success in his work at the new important post and presented him with a token of the meeting.
