Metropolitan Hilarion’s message to Russian Monastery of St. Panteleimon on Athos on the occasion of St. Panteleimon’s Day
Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, has sent the following message of greetings to the abbot of the Russian Monastery of St. Panteleimon on holy Mount Athos on the occasion of the commemoration day of the holy protomartyr and healer Panteleimon:
To the Very Reverend Archimandrite Jeremiah
Abbot of the Russian Monastery of St. Panteleimon on Holy Mount Athos
Very Reverend Father, all-honorable Archimandrite Jeremiah,
I would like to greet you and all the brethren of the Russian Monastery of St. Panteleimon on Athos on the occasion of the monastery’s main day, the commemoration day of the holy protomartyr and healer Panteleimon.
The feat of this man of God, who healed and continues to heal human suffering and illnesses through the grace of the Holy Spirit and the wondrous gift of God, teaches us all charity and love for our neighbours – these most important virtues necessary for the salvation of a Christian both in the world and in a monastery’s fold.
Let the holy Monastery of St. Panteleimon, which has always been renowned for its hospitality and charity towards those who stand in need, be strengthened in truly Christian doing in imitation of its heavenly intercessor and patron, thus representing in proper manner the devout Russian people on Holy Mount.
With love and warmth I pray for all the Athonite monks, especially for our Russian brethren in the St. Panteleimon Monastery. I trust that through God’s mercy and intercession of saints the monastery will remain a place for spiritual renewal and growth in faith and an unshakable rock of salvation amidst the storming sea of worldly passions.
I greet all the pilgrims who have come to honour the memory of the holy protomartyr and to come in touch with the spiritual treasure of Athos.
With love in the Lord,
+ Hilarion
Metropolitan of Volokolamsk
