Greek hierarch makes donation to the victims of forest fires in Russia
On 1 August 2010, Metropolitan Nikolaos of Mesogaia and Laureotiki, leading pilgrims of the Greek Orthodox Church, who arrived in the Nizhny Novgorod diocese to celebrate the commemoration day of St. Seraphim of Sarov, handed over his own money to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church as a donation to the victims of forest fires in Russia, press service of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia reports.
The hierarch of the Church of Greece said that Greece had had similar natural disaster two years ago, and he knows by his own experience about dreadful consequences of the large-scale fires. “I hope that the symbolic 200.000 roubles will commence an effective rather than a symbolic assistance that the Russian Orthodox Church shall render to the victims,” he said. The money will be transferred to the church foundation of the help to the victims.
