Metropolitan Hilarion’s condolences over explosion in church of Protecting Veil in Zaporozhie
An explosion went off during vespers on July 28, 2010, in the church of the Protecting Veil in Zaporozhie. Nine people were injured and Sister Liudmila Donets died of the wounds. Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations, expressed condolences over the tragedy.
To His Beatitude Vladimir
Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine
Your Beatitude, Dear Metropolitan:
Please accept my sincere condolences over the explosion at the church of the Protecting Veil in Zaporozhie.
The witness of the truth and goodness borne by the Church of Christ in the world has always provoked fierce opposition from the forces of falsehood and evil. Incapable of spiritual opposition, these forces have chosen the way of aggression and violence. Terrorist attacks, vandalism and sacrilege – this is their response to the peace-loving call of the Church to brotherly love and mutual aid.
Sister Liudmila has become a victim of the tragedy in Zaporozhie. May the Lord give rest to her soul together with saints in the dwellings of the righteous. May All-Merciful God give consolation to all those who have been affected by this sudden disaster and to their families and friends.
With love in the Lord,
+ Hilarion
Metropolitan of Volokolamsk
