Cochairman of Christian Inter-confessional Advisory Committee of the CIS and the Baltics meet with World Council of Churches delegation
The cochairman of the Christian Inter-confessional Advisory Committee of the CIS and the Baltics (CICAC) – Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, Archbishop Paolo Pezzi of the Catholic Archdiocese of the Mother of God in Moscow, and Presbyter Vitaly Vlasenko, chairman of the department for external relations of the Russian Union of the Evangelical Christians-Baptists – gave a grand dinner in honour of the World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, who is in Moscow for an official visit, and his delegation.
The CICAC cochairman informed the WCC delegation about the work of the Committee and the life of Christian Churches and communities in the CIS and the Baltic region. They exchanged views on a number of urgent problems engaging the attention of the international public.
Dr. Tveit in his turn gave a high assessment to the contribution of Christian communities in creating an atmosphere of cooperation and tolerance in society, making special mention of the peacemaking efforts of the Russian Orthodox Church and the spiritual leadership of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
They also discussed prospects for inter-Christian cooperation in the region, the role of the WCC as coordinator of inter-Christian dialogue on the international arena as well as the need for all the Christian Churches and society to intensify their efforts for protecting Christian values.
