Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk meets with Belgian ambassador to Russia
Archbishop Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, met with H. E. Guy Trouveroy, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Russian Federation, on 17 June 2010, at the department.
His Eminence welcomed his guest, noting his long-standing experience of diplomatic work. He told the ambassador about the situation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Belgium, the Moscow Patriarchate’s parishes and monasteries in that country and the relations existing between the Russian Church and the Benedictine Monastery of Chevtogne for many years. The DECR chairman also informed the Belgian ambassador about the cooperation maintained by the Russian Orthodox Church with international organizations located in Brussels.
The also discussed problems involved in the preservation of traditional religious, ethical and family values as well as the status of Christian Churches in Europe and the role they play in the life of society.
In conclusion Metropolitan Hilarion and Ambassador Trouveroy exchanged tokens of the meeting.
