On 23 April 2010, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia received the Ambassador of South Ossetia to the Russian Federation Dmitry Medoyev.

They were joined in the meeting, which took place at the Patriarch’s working residence in Chisty side street, were the Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church-State relations archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin; deputy chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations archpriest Nikolai Balashov; and the first secretary of the Embassy of South Ossetia Ms. I. Kochieva.

His Holiness the Patriarch noted the exceptional sincerity of unanimous response in the hearts of the Russian people and believers of the Russian Orthodox Church to the tragic events of August 2008.

His Holiness underscored the willingness to develop programmes of aid to the people of South Ossetia, especially in medicine and social support, including volunteers to work in hospitals and other institutions, as well as the training of experts by church social structures.

Dmitry Medoyev asked His Holiness’ blessing for his work as diplomat in the Russian Federation. The Ambassador of South Ossetia told the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church about the consecration of the building of the diplomatic representation in Moscow.

He conveyed kind regards and gratitude of all inhabitants of South Ossetia to His Holiness for versatile and active help rendered by the Russian Orthodox Church.
