On 8 April 2010, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for external church relations, met with Archbishop Sigitas Tamkevičius of Kaunas at the premises of the Department. Ambassador Antanas Vinkus of the Republic of Lithuania to the Russian Federation joined them in the talk.
The guests thanked the DECR chairman for warm welcome and confirmed their utmost interest in the development of friendly relations with the Russian Orthodox Church. Metropolitan Hilarion noted with appreciation the intensified relations between Russia and Lithuania both on the inter-church and on inter-governmental levels and shared his vision of the development of Orthodox-Catholic relations in Lithuania. He underscored the necessity of upholding traditional Christian values in the life of society at present.

A proposal was made to hold a bilateral conference of the representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Episcopal Conference of Lithuania.
