Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk’s oratorio Passions According to St. Matthews was played in the evening of March 30, 2010, at the Russian Drama Theatre in Dnepropetrovsk.

The audience of over 700 included regional and municipal officials, public figures and diocesan clergy.

In his remarks before the performance, Metropolitan Hilarion told the audience that the concert was devoted to the victims of the tragedy that happened on March 29 at Moscow Metro. The audience honoured the memory of the innocent victims by standing for a minute of silence.

According to Metropolitan Hilarion, the recital of Passions According to St. Matthews in Dnepropetrovsk was a step towards the youth, especially those young people who are not inchurched yet. ‘Let today’s concert become an evening of our prayer. May the Lord accept it in these special days as a prayer of young people inspired by life, not death’, His Eminence said.

The oratorio was rendered by Academic Symphony Orchestra and the choir of the regional Philharmonic Society and the choir of the Cathedral of the Holy Transfiguration in Dnepropetrovsk. The recital was conducted by Ms Natalia Ponomarchuk, Honoured Art Worker.
