Metropolitan Hilarion meets in Kiev with Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine

Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, during his visit to Ukraine on 25 March 2010, visited the Apostolic Nunciature in Kiev to meet with the Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine, Archbishop Ivan Jurkovic.

They were joined in their talk by Archimandrite Kirill Govorun, first deputy chairman of the Russian Orthodox Church’s committee for education, and Rev. Igor Yakimchuk, DECR acting secretary for inter-Orthodox relations.

During their friendly talk they discussed problems involved in relations between the Orthodox and the Greek Catholics in Ukraine. Metropolitan Hilarion expressed hope that the Roman Catholic Church would make concrete steps for healing the wounds inflicted on inter-Christian relations in the 1990s in Western Ukraine.
