Yale University professor reads lectures at Church Post-graduate School
Prof. Frederick Scheider of Yale University, a leading academic and research center in the USA, has given lectures at Sts Cyril and Methodius Church Post-graduate School on March 24 and 25, with the blessing of the School’s rector, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk. Before his first lecture, Prof. Scheider was welcomed by the School’s pro-rector, Archpriest Vladimir Shmaliy.
Prof. Scheider focused on church-state relations in the West. After a necessary historical excursus, he moved to an analysis of today’s realities, focusing on such issues as secularization of power, political activity of religious bodies and the Church’s attitude to democracy.
Prof. Scheider has given his lectures in Russian of which he has a good command as a graduate of not only Harvard but also the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
