On March 2, the eve of the celebration of the 132nd anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria from the Turkish yoke, the soldiers who died in the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-78 were commemorated in Moscow at the Memorial Chapel of the Russian Grenadiers fell in the Siege of Pleven.

Orthodox clergymen, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defence and the Moscow City Committee for the relations with religious organization, the “Union of the Friends of Bulgaria’ and the “Centre of Russian National Glory” public organizations and of the Bulgarian Embassy gathered at the Memorial Chapel on ‘Ilyinskie Vorota’ Square.

With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Bishop Savva of Krasnogorsk celebrated requiem service for the Russian soldiers and Bulgarians who laud down their life for the liberation of Bulgaria from the Turkish yoke.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Russian Federation Plamen Grozdanov expressed profound gratitude to the Russian people, the Orthodox brethren, on behalf of the Bulgarian people.

Wreaths from the Russian Ministry of Defence and the Embassy of Bulgaria in Moscow were laid at the Memorial Chapel. Military orchestra played as the guards of honour marched.

According to the press service of the Moscow City Committee for relations with religious organizations, the event was organized on the initiative of the Bulgarian Embassy by the Very Revd. Alexander Saltykov, rector of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Kadashi.
