Requiem service for Archbishop Seraphim (Sobolev) celebrated at the Russian Orthodox metochion in Sofia
26 February 2010 marked the 60th anniversary of the demise of Archbishop Seraphim (Sobolev).
On February 27, Saturday in the second week of Lent, requiem liturgy was celebrated at the metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Sofia. Chief secretary of the Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church Bishop Naum of Stobia officiated in concelebration with the vicar of the Sofia metropolia Bishop John of Znepole, and clergymen of the metochion and the Sofia metropolia.
At the dismissal, Bishop Ioann addressed the worshippers with archpastoral homily. He noted the importance of Archbishop Seraphim’s personality not only to the Russian Church, but also to the Bulgarian Church, as pilgrims come to his tomb from all corners of Bulgaria to venerate the archpastor and to ask for succour and prayers before the Lord’s Throne.
Requiem service was celebrated at the tomb of Archbishop Seraphim. After the service, a funeral repast was offered to all the worshippers according to tradition.
