Archbishop Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Department for external church relations, sent a message to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Haiti Jean-Max Bellerive with condolences over the catastrophic earthquake that struck the country involving numerous victims. The text is given below.

Your Excellency:

Please accept my profound and sincere condolences with the grief in your country over the devastating earthquake that has involved loss of life of the thousands and caused pain and suffering to the millions of local residents.

I sympathize with the families who had lost their near and dear ones and pray for the soonest recovery of the wounded and reconstruction of the areas that suffered from natural disaster.

I welcome the relief actions of international institutions and dozens of the countries of the world taken for the sake of the victims of natural calamity.

May the Lord grant you and all people of Haiti His gracious help, strength, and courage.
