Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church offers condolences over the earthquake in Haiti

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia sent a message to the President of the Republic of Haiti René Garcia Préval expressing his condolences over the catastrophic earthquake that struck the country and brought numerous victims. The text is give below.

Your Excellency,

dear Mr. President:

It was with profound grief that I learnt of the tragedy, which has befallen the people of Haiti, – the devastating earthquake entailing numerous human victims and large-scale devastation.

On these mournful days I and the believers of the Russian Orthodox Church condole with you and all inhabitants of the island who had lost their near and dear ones.

I pray to the All-Merciful Lord for the soonest recovery of the wounded, for bestowing spiritual aid on all those who have lost shelter, and for the strengthening of those who are working now to overcome the consequences of natural disaster.
