Archbishop Hilarion of Volokolamsk met, on 2 October 2009 at DECR, with Father Adalberto Mainardi of the Monastic Community of Bose, Italy. They were joined in their talk by Alexy Dikarev, DECR secretariat for inter-Christian relations.
Father Adalberto conveyed to Archbishop Hilarion greetings and best wishes from his community and especially its founder Father Enzo Bianchi on the occasion of his entering the office of chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations. They discussed the theme of the 18th International Symposium on Orthodox Spirituality to take place in September 2010 as well as prospects for further cooperation including possibilities for interaction between the Community of Bose and the Russian Orthodox Church’s graduate school.
Founded in 1965 by Father Enzo Bianchi, an eminent Catholic theologian and biblical scholar, the Community of Bose has long maintained cooperation with the Russian Orthodox Church in the fields of inter-Christian dialogue, scientific work and publishing activity. The Community of Bose has organized annual international symposia on Orthodox spirituality, which are attended by Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox bishops and clergy, theologians and scholars. A delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church has traditionally participated in these symposia.
