On 19 April 2009, the day of the Bright Resurrection of Christ, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated Paschal Vespers at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. Concelebrating with His Holiness were archpastors of the Russian Orthodox Church, representatives of the Local Orthodox Churches t the Moscow Patriarchate, and Moscow clergymen. Many clergymen came to the Cathedral to greet His Holiness with Holy Pascha.

After the festive service His Eminence Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna greeted His Holiness the Patriarch on behalf of the Holy Synod and the entire Russian Church and presented him a Paschal egg with the image of the Risen Saviour and picture of the Moscow Novodevichy Convent which will celebrate the 480th anniversary of its foundation and the 15th anniversary of the renewal of monastic life on 10 August 2009.

‘I thank you, dear Vladyko, for your kind and right words said in this Paschal evening. Indeed, the major task of the Church is to bring witness of the Risen Saviour, as the Church continues the ministry of the apostles who were witnesses of the Resurrection of Christ,’ His Holiness Patriarch Kirill responded and continued to say, ‘May the blessing of the Lord, the intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God be with all of us so that our pilgrimage to the Kingdom of God is marked by spiritual achievements necessary for personal salvation and the transfiguration of the world in which we live.’
