Russian Orthodox Church delegation participates in patronal feast of Russian Monastery of St. Panteleimon on Mount Athos
On August 9, a delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church visited the Russian Monastery of St. Panteleimon on Mount Athos for the celebrations honouring the Holy Protomartyr and Healer Panteleimon, the patron saint of the monastery.
In keeping with the Holy Synod’s decision of July 27, 2011 (Proceedings No. 79), the pilgrims group was led by Metropolitan Vissarion of Ovruch and Korosten. The delegation included Archbishop Ignaty of Khabarovsk and Priamurye, Bishop Leonid of Rechitsa, and V. Mamonov of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations.
During their pilgrimage, the delegates met with the Protos of Mount Athos and members of the Holy Administration, visited a number of monasteries and sketes and attended divine services at the St. Panteleimon Monastery.
On the commemoration day of St. Panteleimon, Metropolitan Vissarion officiated at All-Night Vigil and celebrated the festive Divine Liturgy. There were the monks of the monastery and numerous pilgrims. Then a procession with the cross was held. After the procession, a message of greetings sent on the occasion by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia was read out.
