Inter-Council Presence continues studies on Relationship Between Science and Faith and Origin of World and Man
The Inter-Council Presence’s theological commission met for a regular session on June 7, 2011. It was chaired by its chairman Metropolitan Filaret of Minsk and Slutsk, who is also chairman of the Synodal Biblical-Theological Commission.
It was attended, among others, by Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, DECR chairman, Archpriest Vladimir Vorobyev, rector of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Humanitarian University, and Archpriest Vladimir Shmaliy, pro-rector of the Sts Cyril and Methodius Post-Graduate School.
The commission considered a draft document on Relationships Between Science and Faith. The final version of this document is to be produced by St. Tikhon’s University.
The commission also heard a report about the work carried out on the second theme, The Origin of the World and the Man. Archpriest Kirill Kopeikin, secretary of St. Petersburg Theological Academy’s Academic Council, made a report on the conference on Science and Religion in the Globalizing World and the round table on Modernization of Russia in the Post-secular Era, which took place on May 23-24, 2011, in St. Petersburg. Both conferences were organized by the inter-disciplinary research center of St. Petersburg State University.
The secretary of the Inter-Council Presence’s theological commission, Archpriest Vladimir Shmaliy, reported the results of the seminar on the Hexameron: the Bible and Science about the Origin of the World and the Man, which was held at the Church Post-Graduate School.
After a discussion, the commission set up a working group for drafting a document on the Origin of the World and the Man. The group will be led by Archpriest Vladimir Shmaliy and will include biblical scholars, patrologists, theologians and philosophers. The group will be based at the Church Post-Graduate School.
