Chairman of the Credentials Committee announces the number of participants in the Bishops’ Council

Chairman of the Credentials Committee of the Russian Orthodox Church Bishops’ Council, Archbishop Mark of Hust and Vinogradov, announced that the checking of registration sheets showed that 198 members of the Council out of 202 bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church had registered by 2 p.m. on 25 January 2009.
Four members of the Bishops’ Council excused themselves from the meeting. Among them Metropolitan Nikodim of Kharkov and Bogodukhov, Archbishop Alipy of Chicago and Detroit, Russian Church Outside Russia, and Bishop Panteleimon of Kirovograd and Novomirgorod.
According to the rules of procedure, two thirds of the its member bishops constitute the quorum of the Bishops’ Council.
