On 27 July 2017, His Holiness Patriarch Neofit of Bulgaria received a delegation of the Russian Monastery of St. Panteleimon on Mount Athos at his Patriarchal residence in Sofia. The delegation brought to Bulgaria the honourable head of the Holy Great Martyr Panteleimon.

His Holiness Patriarch Neofit cordially thanked Archimandrite Eulogius, hegumen of St. Panteleimon’s Monastery, and the Athonite monks who had arrived in Bulgaria, for bringing to the country the head of St. Panteleimon and a copy of his wonderworking icon, and emphasized the importance of this event for the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

Archimandrite Eulogius and representatives of other Athonite monasteries expressed their appreciation to the Primate of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church for the warm paternal welcome and for the joy of concelebrating with him the Divine Liturgy.

On July 28, the hegumen of the Russian Monastery of St. Panteleimon on Mt Athos met with Mr. Dimitar Glavchev, President of the National Assembly of Bulgaria.

Mr. Glavchev thanked the Holy Kinot of Mount Athos and St. Panteleimon’s Monastery for bringing to Bulgaria the great shrine –head of St. Panteleimon – and expressed his hope that this event would grant spiritual strength to the Orthodox Bulgarian people and promote their fraternal relations with Mount Athos.
