METROPOLITAN KIRILL MEETS WITH STUDENTS OF THE FOREIGN OFFICE DIPLOMATIC ACADEMY

Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad met with a group of students from the Foreign Office Diplomatic Academy led by the prorector Yu. Kashlev, on March 5 at the Department for External Church Relations.

He explained to the future diplomats the church-state relations in the past and the present and the major thrusts in the work of the DECR today.

According to Metropolitan Kirill, relations between churches are an important factor in relations between nations and states. The church work in the 20th century was based on the idea that contacts between churches should be taken into account in building inter-state relations.

Metropolitan Kirill answered the students’ questions about the inter-Christian contacts and the present state of relations between the Moscow Patriarchate and the Vatican.
