METROPOLITAN KIRILL VISITS THE SUROZH DIOCESE OF THE MOSCOW PATRIARCHATE

Metropolitan Kirilll of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations began his visit to the Surozh Diocese of the Moscow Patriarchate located in Great Britain and Ireland on 28 November 2001.

Metropolitan Kirill is accompanied by Hegumen Hilarion (Alfeyev), DECR Secretary for Inter-Christian Relations. In the London Cathedral of the Dormition and All Saints Metropolitan Kirill met with Metropolitan Anthony of Surozh, Archbishop Anatoly of Kerch, Bishop Basil of Sergievo and clergymen of the Surozh Diocese.

They discussed the questions of organizing pastoral work for the English-speaking and the Russian-speaking parishioners in the Surozh Diocese. A particular attention was paid to the necessity of the coordinated efforts of the clergymen of the Moscow Patriarchate who perform their ministry in Western Europe.

Metropolitan Kirill noted a considerable recent increase of the number of Russian-speaking parishioners in the Surozh Diocese and pointed at the necessity of more attentive caring for these flock.

That same day Metropolitan Kirill and Hegumen Hilarion had a talk with G.B.Karasin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in Great Britain and General Consul of Russia A.G.Lopukhov.

In the morning of November 29 Metropolitan Kirill accompanied by Hegumen Hilarion arrived in Dublin, the capital of Ireland.
