I cordially congratulate you on your election and appointment to the high and important post of Chairman of the Russian Federation Government.

I believe that an enormous responsibility has been placed on you as today’s socio-economic situation in the country makes it impossible to hope for an early resolution of problems facing the Government.

As Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church I am very much gratified to know that despite all the difficulties good relations have been established between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Moscow Patriarchate called to show common concern for the moral health of society, to promote social, economic and political stability and to preserve and multiply our rich cultural and historical heritage.
