APPEAL OF THE HOLY SYNOD OF THE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH TO VOJISLAV KOSTUNICE

On September 28 the Information Service of the Serbian Orthodox Church issued a special appeal of the Holy Synod of Bishops:

Having noted that the people of Yugoslavia ‘calmly and responsibly’ expressed their will at the presidential, parliamentary and local elections on September 24, the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church called upon the newly-elected President of Yugoslavia Dr.Vojislav Kostunica and other newly-elected leaders of the country to implement the process of taking over also calmly and responsibly.

The appeal says that the election returns have shown that people trust the elects and keep their allegiance to the ideals of freedom.

At present, when the population of the much-suffered Yugoslavia has really acquired the long-awaited freedom, the chosen representatives of people have no right to permit new sufferings of their compatriots.

The appeal of the Holy Synod to Dr.Woislaw Kostunica also says: ‘It is only in this case that the Lord of Heaven and Earth, glorified in the Holy Trinity – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit – will bless the beginning of your work through the prayers of St.Sabas, the Orthodox Church and its Patriarch’.
