In connection with the 50th anniversary of the Baikonur space-vehicle launching site, Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia sent to the participants in the jubilee festivities the following telegramme with congratulations:
Highly esteemed participants of the festivities!
Please accept my heartfelt congratulations with the remarkable date in the modern history of our country – the 50th anniversary of the Baikonur space-vehicle launching site.
The selfless and sacrificial labours of the generations of workers of the space industry and of cosmonauts are a pillar, on which the glory of the Motherland is established.
The Church sees a foundation of the people’s prosperity in the careful preservation and development of our best traditions, including the traditions of national space exploration.
May the All-Merciful and Almighty Lord be with you all and strengthen you in your ministry to Him and to the people.
Yours truly,
+ALEXY
PATRIARCH OF MOSCOW AND ALL RUSSIA
