Some unknown persons tried to blow up a church in Moscow during service

An explosive device was activated on November 30 at the wooden church of St. Nicholas in Medynskaya Street in Moscow. According to the investigation, the explosive was in a jar that unknown persons put in a bag, brought it to the church and left it at the entrance inside the church. At that very time, a service was held in the church, attended by some 50 worshippers.

According to the RIA Novosti news agency, a woman and a man were slightly wounded by the explosion.

Bomb-technicians have estimated the energy of this homemade unjacketed bomb at about 50 g of TNT. Experts have taken some parts of the blasting assembly to identify the type of the explosive.

An investigation team is working on the case. A search has been mounted for two young people of 16-17 years of age who are believed to have left the package with the explosive in the church. Criminal proceedings have been started under Russian Criminal Code Article 213 (Hooliganism).

The wooden church of St. Nicholas in the Birulevo district in Moscow was built in 1922. It burnt down in 1956 and services had to be continued in the little house of the priest. The new wooden church was built in 1957.
